What an amazing summer it's been. I'm a little bit sad that school has started and I will no longer be hearing the daily sounds of kids laughing and playing in the yard...then again, I won't hear them screaming and crying either so i guess there's that.
With September comes flu season which seems to get worse every year. My job now is to get back to a more serious immune boosting plan for the family. It's time to get the seed sprouter going again start making delicious broths from our wild game bones and pump up the vitamins, especially C and D also probiotics and omega 3's.
Our garden is still giving us tons of tomatoes, leafy greens and apples and the hens are happily laying their beautiful blue eggs. I think we will add two more chickens in the next few weeks to help keep the coop warm also just to keep things interesting for the two we have now. I don't think they really like each other in fact, I'm still not sure that the new one, Belle, isn't in fact a rooster! Time will tell.
We will harvest the last of the honey before wrapping the hives up to keep warm and dry this fall and winter. I will also make a big batch of Chayote kraut..(recipe below). https://foodstruct.com/compare/chayote-vs-sauerkraut
